Lombardi Property
The Lombardi property was donated to the Bolton Land Trust in May, 2003 by Rita Lombardi in memory of her husband,
Frank. These 25 acres of woods and rock outcroppings are located in one of the Bolton Land Trust’s priority preservation
areas, the southeast corner of the town of Bolton, which is an area notable for its hundreds of acres of undeveloped,
unfragmented forest. The land is contiguous to 26 acres owned by the Northern Connecticut Land Trust.

Phillips Property
Donated by Bolton resident and native Bill Phillips in early 2004, this 6-acre property consists of a 2.25 acre
piece which the Bolton Land Trust owns outright, and a 4-acre piece on which the land trust holds a conservation
easement. Holding a conservation easement means that there are restrictions to how the land can be used (for instance,
no excavation, tree removal, herbicide use, and no buildings) and the land trust has the right to make sure these
restrictions are followed.
This is an important addition to Bolton’s open space because it is located near other preserved land (Herrick Park
is across the street to the east) and contains a tributary to the Blackledge River, one of the land trust’s priority
preservation areas. Preservation efforts have already begun along the river: conservation easements held by other
land trusts which existed before the Bolton Land Trust preserve approximately 9 acres west of Hatfield Drive and
about 10 acres east of Norma’s Way, and farther south Gay City State Park permanently protects another portion
of the river.

Blackledge Marsh
This 19.47-acre parcel is comprised primarily of a marshy portion of the Blackledge River, as well as some contiguous
dry land. This property was donated to the Bolton Land Trust in June, 2004 and lies only about 1 mile south of
the Phillips property, thereby decreasing the gap between other preserved properties along the Blackledge River
corridor. This property is notable for its diverse wetland flora and fauna, a beaver lodge and dam.
